The Press is on to Complete Water Meter Installations
If you have not yet had a water meter installed in your home, please contact the City to schedule an installation. In most instances, the meter and installation will be free.
Please send an email with your address and contact information to newportwaterdepartment@gmail.com or call (802) 487-9448 to begin the process!
Meters are required by city ordinance because it is the only way to establish a fair billing practice and because it will help to City track and prevent water leaks.
City Council Seeks Planning Commission Nominations
On August 4th, the Council invited Newport Residents and Business Owners to consider nominating themselves or others to serve on the Planning Commission. There is currently one slot available. Right now, the Planning Commission is involved in a major revision to the City’s Zoning Bylaws. If such a position interests you, or you think you might know someone who is a good fit, please reach out to Frank Cheney, Zoning Administrator, at zoning.administrator@newportvermont.org and provide a letter of interest as well a summary of your related experience. The Council is particularly interested in candidates who have not considered this kind of service to the community in the past.

Founded in 1793, the city of Newport, Vermont sits on the east shore of Lake Memphremagog – a 27-mile long lake that straddles the US and Canadian border. The city’s history is informed by its unique location on the lake and early introduction of the railway.
Early businesses in Newport centered around the lumber industry and the lake itself. Many original, historic buildings still stand downtown and are in use as shops, restaurants, and municipal buildings.
