Public Works & Recycling Information

The job of the Public Works department is to maintain the city infrastructure. This includes the city streets and sidewalks, water and sewer treatment plants, the water tower, the water & sewer lines, and the Recycling Center.

The City’s Recycling Center is located at 651 Coventry St., Newport, Vt.
The Center is open on Wednesdays, from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.,
and Saturdays, from 8:00 a.m. until noon.

****** Newport City Composting***** The recycling center will take yard and leaf debris, such as grass trimming, flowers, pine needles, fruits and vegetables and peelings, bread, spices, egg shells, and coffee grounds. Please ask attendant if you want to compost something and are not sure if it is allowed.  Absolutely NO meats, bones or dairy products, any plants that pesticides were added, wood or branches.

Call us if you’d like a free water meter installed, water turned on or shut off. The Wastewater Treatment Plant treats approximately 500,000 to 600,000 gallons of sewage per day, although is permitted for 1.2 million gallons per day. Stop in to see how digestion works. We love to give tours. We are very proud of the work we do and of the quality of the effluent we produce.
